Ivy Green is the name of the plantation where Helen Keller was born. It received its name from all of the English Ivy that grows on the plantation. Ivy Green consists of a main house (at right) with four rooms downstairs and three rooms upstairs and a cottage located east of the main house. The cottage is where Helen Keller was born. Between the main house and the cottage, is the famous well-pump where Helen learned to communicate.

The main house consisted of a master bedroom, parlor, dining room, and museum downstairs. Upstairs consisted of the east bedroom, west bedroom (Helen and Annie Sullivan's), and a trunk room.

The master bedroom (Captain Keller's bedroom) contains pictures of Helen at various ages, pictures of Helen's great-great-great grandparents, Alexander Spottswood, who was an early Colonial Governor of Virginia, and his wife Annie Butler Brayne, a quilt made by Helen's aunt, Miss Eveline Keller, and a wardrobe with Helen and Mrs. Keller's clothing.

The dining room has family owned china and silver pieces. It also has the family's sugar chest. Sugar was only delivered about twice a year, so it was kept under lock and key.
